We’re going to talk about the recovery time for breast augmentation surgery. In general, breast augmentation surgery can take anywhere between an hour to two hours to perform. It’s a same day, meaning that the patient goes home that day and sleeps in their own bed that night. I generally like to see my patients the next day just to make sure that everything looks fine and that there are no immediate complications. After that initial visit, I see patients one week later at which time the sutures are removed. I perform an incision that goes below the nipple area or complex and there are a number of sutures that need to be taken out. Those sutures are taken out at one week. In terms of getting back to work, very often when patients have surgery performed on a Thursday they can be back to work Monday or Tuesday.

There are actually some people that want their patients to exercises in the recovery room prior to going home. As far as surgical procedures are concerned, the recovery is actually relatively quick. There’s a phenomenon with breast augmentation surgery where the implants tend to sit high initially due to tension in the muscle and over the course of time they tend to drop. Often, this will take about three months. So, initially your surgeon might have tape on you breasts or have a strap that goes above the breasts to help the breast implants settle. If they look high initially that’s normal.

Over the course of three months, they get into the proper position. In terms of getting back to your normal routine and getting back to the gym and exercising, there’s a risk of bleeding for about 2-3 weeks. So, in general, we don’t want people doing anything that strenuous for about 2-3 weeks and nothing intensely strenuous for about 6 weeks. After that, the recovery is pretty smooth. And, that is the recovery for breast augmentation surgery.

My Breast Augmentation | 10+ Yrs Later

breast implant 28 Comments »

My Breast Augmentation | 10+ Yrs Later: It seems as if after I post every BBL or plastic surgery video, I’m asked repeatedly about my Breast Augmentation. I wanted to FINALLY address those questions and comments. It’s been almost 13 years so I’ve never put much thought into talking about them until so many people asked about my experience. Today I’m sharing pretty much everything I remember and answering specific questions.

What I Forgot to Mention:
* I was a small B CUP prior to my first pregnancy.
* Dr. Gregory Stagnone is located in Dallas, TX
* Yes, it was painful. I had both my Tummy Tuck and Breast Aug done in the same visit. My breast hurt far more than my stomach despite not being able to stand up. The pressure was pretty bad and felt as is an elephant was sitting on my chest. After a few days it got much better but remained tender for a month or so.

FDA Advises Women with Breast Implants about ALCL

breast implant 20 Comments »

[vpmedicaldevices] FDA Advises Women with Breast Implants about ALCL

If you or someone you know has breast implants, or if you’re thinking about getting them, you may have heard of Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma or ALCL. FDA recently announced that women who have breast implants may have a very small but increased risk of developing ALCL in the scar tissue surrounding the implant.

Like other lymphomas, ALCL is a cancer of the immune system. It’s not a cancer of the breast tissue.

FDA is aware of about 60 reports of ALCL worldwide in women with breast implants, which is a very small number compared to the estimated 5 to 10 million women who have breast implants. In most cases, these women went to their health care providers after noticing changes in the look or feel of the area around their implants — changes like swelling, pain, lumps or asymmetry — where one breast becomes different in size or shape than the other. These changes usually occurred years after first getting the implants.

When these women were diagnosed with ALCL, most of the them were treated by removing their implants and the surrounding scar tissue. Some of these women also received chemotherapy or radiation therapy or both. Some researchers think that ALCL in women with breast implants may be less aggressive than the more common form of the disease but at this time, there isn’t enough information to say for sure.

Because there are so few cases of ALCL in women with breast implants, we also can’t confirm that breast implants cause ALCL, or know if certain kinds of implants increase the risk more than others. FDA is gathering additional data so we can learn more about ALCL in women with breast implants.

So if you have breast implants, what should you do?

If you don’t have symptoms, FDA does not recommend getting your implants removed only because you’re concerned about developing ALCL. Just continue your routine medical care, including your regular breast screening evaluations. If you do notice changes in the area around your implant, have it evaluated by your healthcare provider.

You can get the most current information about ALCL and breast implants at www.fda.gov/breastimplants.
